Process, Information and Expectations for grade 9 class:
Grade 9 referees who are 14 years or older have 2 options to officiate in 2009.  If you have refereed at least one season (spring/fall), you have the option to enroll in a bridge class to upgrade to a grade 8 referee or re-certify as a grade 9 referee.  Additional information on bridge classes can be found on this website, under the Bridge Classes link.
To re-certify as a grade 9 referee for 2009, referees must follow a two step process (Registration and Recertification).  Both activities must be accomplished to recertify:

1. Registration Process:
Referees should receive their 2009 Referee Renewal Information letters from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).  Referees can expect to receive their letter in October.  The letter will provide instructions on how to register with the USSF to recertify.  Registration process and payment of renewal fees can be completed on the Internet or at a recertification clinic.

If you have not received your 2009 Referee Renewal Information letters from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and you wish to register before you receive it, do the following:
1. To register for a class hold the SHIFT KEY and click https://www.ussoccer.info/ to open a new window and
    keep on reading these instructions

     A) as USER ID use your USSF ID preceded by the letter R (as in Referee)
     B) as Password use your lastname (unless you have previously changed it)
2. Click Referee on left menu;
you will see a Welcome to Michigan Referee Section
3. Click the message
Click here to apply for your 2009 Registration
after a while you will see a lot of information related to your registration
4. Choose the class called "ALL Grade 9 Recertifications" with location "Anywhere in Michigan"
This is a catch-all class that allows you to attend any Recertification class offered in any location.
5. Answer the Conviction question
read  the Terms and Conditions and Click the appropriate box
6. Fill out Credit Card information
7. click Continue and print 2 copies of the receipts and bring them the class of your choice.

note: if the data in the USSOCCER website is incorrect, click Home then Personal Details

2. Recertification Process:
Referees must attend one of the recertification clinics listed below and successfully pass a 50 question recertification test.  There’s no need to pre-register with clinic coordinators to attend a recertification clinic.
Items Required at Clinic:
1. Bring your USSF 2009 Referee Renewal Information letter.
2. If you don’t have your USSF 2009 Referee Renewal Information letter, please bring your 2008 USSF ID card to complete a manual form at the clinic.
3. Recertification clinic costs are $55.00
4. Bring 2 copies of proof of payment, if you paid online.  If you are paying your renewal fees at the clinic, please bring cash or check (payable to “MRC”).  One check for multiple referees is acceptable.  If paying by cash, please bring the correct amount do not rely on instructors to provide change.
5. Referees born before 1/1/1991 must bring your Risk Management card.
6. Pen/pencil and paper for notes.
7. Referees may bring lunch or snacks and are expected to clean up after themselves.

Recertification Clinic Information and Expectations:
- Only grade 9 referees (referees with blue badges) can attend these clinics to re-certify.
- All referees are expected to arrive in advance of the posted clinic start times.
- No admittance to the clinic 15 minutes after the posted start time.  Refereeing or playing in an indoor soccer game is not a legitimate reason for being late or leaving early.
- Few recertification clinics will be offered this year.  Do not wait until the last minute to re-certify.
- Capacity at some clinics may be limited.  Referees are seated on a first come, first serve basis.  Seats aren’t guaranteed, referees will be turned away when capacity is reached.
- To obtain certification, all participants are expected to stay for the entire clinic.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

- Electronic devices such as Game Boys, iPods or MP3 players aren’t permitted in clinic.
- Pagers and cell phones on vibrate are permitted.  Cell phones are only to be used for making calls before, after or during breaks of the clinic.
- Text messaging during the clinic is prohibited.
- Referees who are demonstrating conduct (ie sleeping, texting, etc) that IS NOT conducive to the recertification clinic will be asked to leave.  The referee will be required to attend a different clinic in it’s entirety to re-certify.

- IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT A REFEREE REVIEW HIS/HER LAWBOOK PRIOR TO ATTENDING A CLINIC IN ORDER TO PASS THE 50 QUESTION RECERTIFICATION EXAM.  THE MINIMUM PASSING SCORE IS 74%.
